You don’t have to be particularly religious to recognise that a church can really be the heart of the community in town. As a caterer, community is something that has always been integral to our and beliefs here at Hog Roast Cirencester. Without community, there would be little reason for our event catering to even exist in many instances. Community is what brings people together, and when people come together that is where great dining is needed. After all, as the old adage goes, good food in good company is one of life’s finest pleasures.
So, then, when we received an invite to cater for St Laurence Church’s 75th anniversary day here in Cirencester we were delighted to be able to join. What a fantastic day this was where the parish community came together to really celebrate in style. A service, water slides and games for the kids, ice cream, a new parish hall well utilised, and dining not only from us at Hog Roast Cirencester, but also from some of the local parish men too, who set up a brilliant barbecue operation with meaty briskets and more.
The whole day was blessed with the sun thankfully, making this a great summer event. It’s a good thing too, because the St Laurence community had put in a tonne of work to utilise the church grounds with multiple water slides, an ice cream truck, games and entertainment, and days of work put in by the St Laurence men to put together a smoky brisket. For our part, chefs Ellis and Morgan further supplemented the day with our famed hog roast – a perfect accompaniment to the smoky barbecuing going on elsewhere. We had our whole hog roast out on the spit to add to the summery vibes, where we could then finely carve and hand pull at request for hot filled rolls along with sage and onion stuffing, crispy crackling, seasonal leafy greens, coleslaw, and grilled veg and halloumi skewers.
